Finally Jiu-Jitsu again

After three weeks away from Jiu-Jitsu for several reasons, I finally returned to training last evening. We did five rounds of three minutes each. Only one of my training partners was older; all the others were much younger. One was 17 years younger than me and about 20 kg heavier.

I did quite well overall, but I had to tap at the end when he put heavy pressure on my head.

I also rolled with a young lady who was a white belt but had already been training for two years. I could clearly feel how good her technique was. She controlled the game very well, although she couldn’t finish me.

All in all, my rolling wasn’t bad, especially considering the three-week break.

We don’t have a stripe system in my academy—only full-color belts: white, blue, purple, brown, and black. You can usually tell when you’re rolling with someone whether they are a new white belt or a more experienced one.

As usual, the class started with a good warm-up, followed by some technique drills. We worked on a takedown that transitioned directly into side control, then escaped side control and re-established it. At the end of the class, the instructor said he was satisfied with the group's performance, noting that he had seen extensive practical application of the techniques during rolling.

During the weeks away from Jiu-Jitsu, I was training at home. Did every second day, either e.g. 100 burpees or one day 200+ pushups, squats, etc., and almost daily some core training.

I call the 100 burpees exercise "lazy training" because I know that in about 20 minutes, I have done a pretty good whole-body workout.
