The last evening session was one of those trainings after which I felt a bit more confident again. I think I did okay.
During four rounds of three minutes each with different partners in free sparring, I was much more active. They were white belts (of course all 15+ years younger than me) who usually sweep me while I just try to survive underneath them—often unsuccessfully.
But this time was different. I was fighting.
There was one moment when I weakened again and had a bit of a panic reaction. One of them got into a position where my head was trapped under his legs. That’s something I really need to learn to control better.
But that’s what BJJ is about, isn’t it? Learning to control yourself under stress.
After the usual warm-up, we practiced various sweeps. I’ve gone through all of them several times before, but I’m still far from mastering any of them. I always try to focus on technique. Speed will come naturally with time.
Today I’m staying home, but I’m still doing some push-ups—even while writing this post. I do 10–20 push-ups, then do something around the house, then another 10–20.
