Strong as a bull!

“You’ve got the strength of a bull.” - That’s what a rolling partner said to me after a three-minute round.

He’s about 15 years younger than me and probably the oldest partner I rolled with in the last class. For most of the round, he was on top of me, but I survived. He couldn’t take full control. He didn’t dominate. And that, too, is a kind of satisfaction.

The other two rolling partners were much heavier—around 30–35 kg (about 70 pounds) more than me. With the first one, who was not only heavier but also about 35 years younger, he was so heavy that I couldn't make a takedown while we were practising techniques.

I wasn’t able to establish a proper guard around his waist. Either my legs are too short, or his waist is simply too voluminous.

One round was with a brown belt. Of course, he was controlling me—but he allowed me to work. I think I’ve now started to understand how he was controlling me while I was trying to come into side control. I’ll have to try it that way next time.

I should mention that this was a full fundamentals class, with only white belts. The brown belt joined in while waiting for the advanced class, which starts immediately after we finish.

The next training session will combine the fundamentals and advanced classes.
