Finally a good training

Yesterday’s class was, from my point of view, quite good compared to some other days.

We didn’t have a very long warm-up. As the days become warmer and longer, our warm-ups become shorter too. Logical, somehow.

The technique we practiced started from half guard. The person on top had to make a hip switch, free the trapped leg, and move into side control. Later, we worked on the counter: when the top person makes the hip switch, the person underneath comes up on the elbow, grabs the belt, releases the half guard, takes the back, and chokes the opponent.

After a while, the instructor realized that some people didn’t really know how to apply a proper choke. So we spent some time practicing rear naked chokes from back control on each other.

At the end, I had five rounds of five minutes each of free rolling, and for the first three or four rounds, we started directly from half guard.

My first round was with a young lady who is probably almost half my weight. Whenever I roll with her, I try not to rely on strength but only on technique. It’s a very good opportunity to see what I actually know.

Two of the rounds were light because the guy had a wrist injury. So only two rounds were at full intensity — and I did quite well. In both of them, I tapped, and I got tapped.

So all in all, I’m satisfied.

Needless to say, both my shoulders are sore today, my fingers hurt, and many other body parts are reminding me that they are still there.
