I was totally gassed out yesterday. I had no power at all. My shoulders hurt badly. I can’t do push-ups anymore without pain after just a couple of repetitions, and pull-ups are currently impossible.
During the warm-up, we had to do bear crawls with a partner on our back. I wasn’t able to do it because of my shoulders. Normally, I should be able to.
Again, we practiced from half guard: the person on the bottom taking the back and choking the person on top. We’ve already done the same drill two or three times before.
At the end, I had four rounds of free rolling, five minutes each, all starting from half guard. I had worryingly little strength. Partly because of my shoulder problems and partly because — honestly — I don't know.
Technically, I wasn’t doing badly, but I could have done much better with a little more energy.
The positive thing was that I finally started escaping triangle chokes properly from closed guard when I’m on top. In the past, I always tried to pull out with brute force like a bull. But yesterday, for the first time, I managed to put my weight correctly onto my opponent’s legs while they were locked around my shoulders — and it worked.
I escaped quite easily without yanking or pulling, and I could even move directly into side control afterward.
Only because of that can I say I’m satisfied with yesterday’s class.
I adapted something new.
