My shoulders still hurt, so I don’t have as much strength as I normally should, but I believe I was much more confident than I have been many times before.
I had seven rounds of five minutes each of free rolling. One round was against a new guy — a young dude, maybe 20–25 years old. He didn’t even have a gi yet, so he trained in shorts and a T-shirt. It was only his second or third class. But he was young, fast, and powerful, with that “UFC-watching” knowledge. On top of that, he was slippery with sweat.
It wasn’t easy because he kept attacking constantly, but I could handle him. I even managed to sweep him, and we exchanged dominant positions several times. Even when he was on top, I could at least survive using closed guard.
That round gave me confidence.
As usual, all rounds were with different partners because we switched every round.
Against another young guy, I even managed to submit him with an armbar. I’m not completely sure, but I think it was my first successful armbar submission while free-rolling.
My escapes from triangle chokes were successful again — even against one brown belt. Okay, he wasn’t rolling with full intensity, and it was his first training session after eight months away, but still.
This time, I was satisfied with myself.
Between classes, I also did some biking and resistance band training for my shoulders.
