Gassed out so quickly

Yesterday, we did a lot of guard inversion roll drills with a partner. Needless to say, it didn’t work very well for me. First, I’m too stiff for it. I can’t touch my toes to the mat overhead while lying on my back. I’m working on it, and I think it’s getting a little better, but I’m still far from there. After that exercise, we moved on to drills for passing the half guard and, vice versa, for protecting your half guard. The Instructor showed us the importance of staying in constant contact with your opponent when you’re sitting on the ground. We did a lot of drills, and then five or six of us had to take the half guard position while the rest came up to each of them in turn and tried to pass the guard and get to a dominant position. The guy on the mat tried to sweep, close the guard, or do something else. The winner stayed on the mat, and the loser did squats or push-ups and went back in line for the next round. We rotated a lot. I like this kind of drill. For the cool-down, we did some core exercises.

Today my fingers are sore, my shoulders hurt, and I have bruises and sore muscles elsewhere. Otherwise, I feel fine, except that I’m concerned I gassed out so quickly. I don’t know why. Endurance has usually been my strong point.
