During yesterday's class, at one moment I wondered, "Am I too old for this?" There were some warm-up exercises that I really should be able to do, but I'm far from it. On the other hand, I think I did quite well in some of the technique exercises. It was also the first time that we didn't do any free-rolling rounds. I think the whole academy decided to emphasize technique this season.
Another reason my self-doubts came up again is probably that, on another day, my very first free-rolling round was with a young fella who was athletic, strong, and much younger than me, although it was only one of his first classes. He didn't even have a gi yet. Right from the start, he attacked, of course, and at one point I ran out of air. I was really trying to catch my breath, but the gym was stuffy, and for a moment I thought about going outside for some fresh air. In the end, I stayed on the mat but took it easy. After another, slower round, I felt okay again, and I even managed to sweep and take side control on a guy who normally dominates me.
All in all, I have mixed feelings. The sleepless nights after class because of my shoulder pain, I won't even mention.
